Red Hook

Neighborhood Image

Red Hook is a neighborhood located south of Carroll Gardens, bordered by Hamilton Avenue and by water on three sides - the Buttermilk Channel to the Northeast (Governor's Island is visible on the other side), the Erie basin at the south end, and the Gowanus bay to the east.

Despite lacking a subway station, Red Hook has become a vibrant and growing area of Brooklyn, with solid rows of houses, renovated buildings, and great dining with the view of tugboats going by.

Commuters can walk about a mile to the Smith-Ninth Street or Carroll Street train stations for the F & G trans or wait for the B61 bus, which runs about every 10 minutes during the day and once an hour, late at night. The bus runs to Downtown Brooklyn at the A, C & F trains at Jay Street-Borough Hall station and the 2, 3, 4, 5, M & R trains the the Borough Hall station.
